Snowshoeing is an increasingly popular winter sport, a sport practiced by many of you. There are many different choices of rackets, but it remains to be seen which one is right for you.
Composition
There are two types of racket, the traditional racket, made of wood, and the modern racket, which uses other materials.
Choice of snowshoes
There are 3 types of racket depending on the discipline:
- running (small and light; not intended for hiking) about 64cm or less.
- leisure (a little wider; for moderate walks of 5 to 8 km)
- mountaineering (the widest; for steep slopes, long routes and off-trail), greater than 76cm
In case of deep snow, it is possible to use an extension cord.
In addition, the width of the racket varies depending on the weight of the person and/or the weight of the backpack and equipment in possession. The greater the weight, the wider the rackets should be.
This also works with the depth of the snow, the denser it is, the wider the snowshoes will be. Many manufacturers now indicate the ideal weight for a type of racket.
Fasteners
There are three types of fastening:
- H-shaped for traditional snowshoes, due to its 3 straps.
For the modern racket, there are two types of binding depending on whether or not the toes can pass under the head.
- to climb steep slopes since it allows you to cut steps
- the second for running, since it prevents the tail of the racket from dragging. The heel is always left free.
